Well Frell!
Sorry it took me so long to blog again!
I've been busy ... okay I've been lazy!
I was working with the department of fish and wildlife ... it was fun but now it's done
I am currently taking a Literature class which requires me to sit with the dictionary next to me while reading ... why is all "classic" literature written with 5 dollar words???
I have found some interesting words though ... like mawkish
Meaning:
1. Sickly or extremely sentimental ( now should that not be sickeningly instead of sickly ... sickly just doesn't make sence to me ...)
2. Insipid in taste; nauseous; disgusting.
now why is this not used instead ... it must be written by a man confusion is their tool of trade!
Mawkish originally meant "maggoty" (from Middle English mawke, maggot), hence squeamish, nauseating, hence tending to render squeamish or make nauseated, especially because of excessive sentimentality.
then we get to my personal favorite ... a word that is a contradiction!
virago \vuh-RAH-go; vuh-RAY-go\, noun:
1. A woman of extraordinary stature, strength, and courage.
2. A woman regarded as loud, scolding, ill-tempered, quarrelsome, or overbearing.
however if you think of this as a man would it makes perfect sense ...
a woman of extraordinary stature with strength and courage would seem too much like a man .. therefore she would be ill-tempered and overbearing ... just like a man LOL
(thanks Jenn! she tells me: ORIGIN first used as the name given by Adam to Eve inthe Vulgate version of the Bible: from Latin, ‘heroic woman, female warrior’, from vir ‘man’.)
I'm also trying to write a story ... perhaps I could post it here ... I'll have to check with my editor ... Oh X ....
Blog at you later
